'Dis/-functional fragmented wardrobe / coverings for daily life and beyond'
at WinterSALON.

SALON/ is an initiative by Gijs Stork, Manon Schaap and Cathal McKee that creates a crossover experience to inspire and instigate a discussion and dialogue between art, design and fashion.

'At winterSALON 2012 de Vries shows a series of constructions in which she uses 'contexts where clothes exist beyond its wearer' as a starting point. For these works in progress she used universal clothing related objects like a metal clothes hanger and a mobile metal wardrobe construction. Like in her other works she uses these kinds of anonymous, blank starting points to rebuilt an object. The 'building' of the object in this particular work is a process that is determined by the compositions created in which she tries to find a dialogue between references. She does this with the aim to create a disillusion on the definition and therefore function of the object. With this process she questions the aim of designing objects like we know them: a chair, a dress, a lamp etc. and tries to find a void. This particular set of objects shows references with the temporality of fashion through the transparant fragile textile, the temporally construction and the cord, which seems to refer to a tent. The roughness of the handmade cord and the concrete block pins the whole work to the ground. The fragmented covering of the fragile constructions and set of shoes give the situation a desolate feeling. As if it's an abondoned timeless scene where the wearer isn't there but not absent.'
